Dado rails and panel mouldings add structure to a wall. A dado rail divides the wall horizontally and protects it from chairs and everyday knocks. Panel mouldings create the framed wall panelling found in period halls, staircases and dining rooms.
We offer handmade plaster dado rails from our Birmingham workshop, and a large range of lightweight dado rails and panel mouldings by Orac in Purotouch and Duropolymer.
Many Orac profiles also come in a flexible version for curved walls, with matching corner pieces for panelling. Our multifunctional profiles can be used as a dado rail, a panel moulding or a decorative trim.
Traditionally a dado rail sits at around a third of the wall height, which is often about 900mm to 1m from the floor. On a staircase it follows the line of the stairs.
A dado rail runs around the room in one continuous line. Panel mouldings are used to make rectangular frames on the wall, creating the look of traditional wall panelling.
Plaster gives an authentic period finish and is ideal for restorations. Lightweight Orac mouldings are quicker to fit, resist knocks and moisture, and include flexible versions for curved walls.
Yes. Both plaster and lightweight mouldings are supplied ready to paint, so you can match the wall or pick out the rail in a contrasting colour.
