What We Need Before Plaster Restoration
Successful plaster restoration and matching depends on having a good example of the original detail. The better the section we can work from, the more accurate the final result will be.
Access to Original Plaster Detail
For accurate plaster restoration, we need access to an existing section of cornice, ceiling rose, or moulding. This allows us to take a template or mould directly from the original work. Where damage is extensive, we can often repair or rebuild a section first to create a suitable sample.
Templates & Mould Taking
In most cases, we will take a template or create a mould from the original plasterwork. This may involve taking a squeeze mould on site or removing a section for workshop production. This stage is critical to ensure the restored plaster matches the original profile exactly.
Workshop Mould Production
Once a template has been taken, we produce a mould in our workshop using rubber or fibreglass. Any old paint or build-up is removed to reveal the original detail before the mould is created. This ensures a clean, accurate reproduction of the original design.
Casting & Hand Finishing
New plaster sections are cast from the mould and carefully refined by hand. Each piece is checked and adjusted to ensure it matches the original work in both profile and detail. This is where experience matters — achieving a seamless result is all in the finishing.
Recreating the Original Plasterwork
We recreate the damaged or missing sections piece by piece using the new mould. This allows us to rebuild the original design accurately, whether it’s a small repair or a full run of plaster cornice or decorative moulding.
Installation & Final Matching
Where installation is required, our team fits the new plasterwork with precision, ensuring joints are clean and the transition between old and new is invisible. When done correctly, the restored area blends seamlessly with the existing plasterwork.

1. Initial Enquiry & Assessment
We review your enquiry, images, and drawings to understand the scope of work. From the outset, we assess the condition of the plasterwork and identify the best approach for plaster restoration and matching existing mouldings.
2. Site Visit & Templating (If Required)
Where required, we carry out a site visit to take accurate measurements and create templates. In addition, we can take a squeeze mould directly from the original plaster detail, ensuring an exact match.
3. Mould Creation
We create a mould in our workshop using rubber or fibreglass. Before this, we remove paint and build-up to expose the original detail. As a result, we achieve a clean and accurate reproduction.
4. Workshop Production
We cast all plasterwork in our workshop using traditional methods. Each section is then checked, refined, and finished by hand, ensuring it matches the original profile and detail.
5. Plaster Restoration Installation (If Required)
Once production is complete, our team installs the plasterwork using precise methods. This ensures accurate alignment, clean joints, and a seamless transition between old and new.
6. Finishing & Final Matching
We inspect all restored areas on completion. Where necessary, we carry out final making good so the repair blends seamlessly with the existing plasterwork.
