Featured Project – Worswick Chambers / STACK Newcastle
Victorian Cornice Company was appointed to undertake the installation of an extensive decorative plasterwork package as part of the restoration and redevelopment of Worswick Chambers in Newcastle upon Tyne, working for main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland.
The Grade II listed Victorian building has since been transformed into STACK Newcastle, a major food, drink and entertainment destination occupying the restored Worswick Chambers on Pilgrim Street.
Our work involved the installation of approximately 720 metres of plaster cornice across 12 different profiles, together with 16 extra-large decorative corbels and a bespoke plaster dome.
The wide variety of profiles required considerable attention to detail throughout the project, particularly where decorative cornices incorporated intricate geometric and classical enrichment. Our craftsmen carefully fitted, jointed and finished each section on site to achieve a consistent appearance throughout the restored building.
The project formed part of a major heritage redevelopment, requiring our installation team to coordinate closely with the main contractor and other trades throughout the refurbishment.
Worswick Chambers is an excellent example of the scale and complexity of plasterwork installation we can undertake, combining traditional craftsmanship with the ability to deliver large commercial and heritage projects across Newcastle and throughout the UK.
